Russian peacekeepers conduct counter-terrorism drill in Transdniestria

MOSCOW. Jan 28 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian tactical military group based in Transdniestria has practiced operations in the event of a terrorist attack on the garrison in Tiraspol, Western Military District spokesman Col. Oleg Kochetov told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.

"The Russian tactical military group, deployed in the Transdniestrian region of the Republic of Moldova, has held a drill to practice counter-terrorism operations in the event of a terrorist attack on the military garrison in Tiraspol," Kochetkov said.

Under the drill's scenario, a terrorist group attacks a bank and abducts its employees. Russian peacekeepers free the hostages and neutralize the terrorists, he said.

"Special emphasis was laid on small tactical groups' teamwork skills inside a building and the liberation of hostages," Kochetkov said.

Russian sappers practiced operations to defuse improvised explosive devices in a bank, he said.
