NASA to book another six seats on Russian Soyuz spaceships

MOSCOW. Jan 29 (Interfax-AVN) - U.S. astronauts will continue to travel to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard Russia's Soyuz spaceships through 2017, NASA said.

It said six Soyuz seats would be booked for round trips of U.S. astronauts and three astronauts would be trained for the mission in 2017.

The prospective contract, the second to be signed in the recent years, will envisage the possibility of using a Soyuz spaceship as an escape pod in spring 2018, the report said.

NASA did not disclose how much it would pay to Roscosmos for the services.
