Foreign Ministry urges vigilance of Russian citizens in Sudan

MOSCOW. Jan 29 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry has advised Russian companies and organizations operating in Sudan to thoroughly consider personnel security issues.

"Due to the complex situation in Sudan and the entire sub-region the Russian Foreign Ministry recommends that representatives of Russian organizations and companies operating in that country thoroughly consider personnel security issues. We insistently call on all Russian citizens to avoid places there the crime and terrorist threat is high," the ministry said in a report posted on its website on Wednesday.

The Russian Embassy in Khartoum, Sudan, has tightened security following the attack against the consular department head and his wife, the ministry said. "The local police are investigating the incident," it said.

"The victims were immediately taken to a hospital and given medical aid. The Russian diplomat and his wife are in a fair condition. They are staying at home under the surveillance of the Embassy doctor," the ministry reported.
