MOSCOW. Jan 29 (Interfax) - The Federation Council approved on Wednesday a bill toughening the liability for extremist crimes.
"The bill aims to neutralize national security threats involving the destructive activities of religious organizations on Russian territory by proposing to toughen the criminal liability for the crimes stipulated by Articles 280, 282, 282.1 and 282.2 of the Russian Criminal Code (public calls for extremism; inciting hatred or animosity, as well as the demeaning of human dignity; organizing an extremist community; and organizing extremist activities, respectively)," according to the bill commentary.
The bill increases fines, prison terms and the length of community sentences.
