MOSCOW. Feb 3 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process with Israeli National Security Advisor Joseph Cohen at the Munich Security Conference on Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with National Security Advisor Joseph Cohen of the State of Israel on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Munich on January 31. While they were exchanging views on key aspects of the situation in the Middle East and Northern Africa, special attention was paid to the situation in Syria and around it and the state of affairs in the Palestinian-Israeli negotiating process," the ministry said in a statement available on its website on Saturday.
"Lavrov reaffirmed Russia's preparedness, along with the other members of the Middle East Quartet of international mediators, to provide the necessary assistance to the promotion of Palestinian-Israeli talks and their productive completion," it said.
Lavrov and Cohen also discussed a number of relevant international and regional problems, including the Iranian nuclear program, and considered some practical aspects of the Russian-Israeli bilateral agenda, the ministry said.
Lavrov and Cohen "expressed mutual interest in continuing an active political dialogue between Russia and Israel on global and regional problems, including ways to counter terrorism," the ministry said.
