Ukrainian opposition proposes new bills for activists' release, protection against persecution

KYIV. Feb 3 (Interfax) - The amnesty law passed by Verkhovna Rada on January 29 should be amended by removing certain conditions for the release of the activists, Svoboda Party leader Oleh Tiahnybok said.

"Another bill, N4072, has just been registered by people's deputies Shvaika and Mirnoi (Svoboda Party's faction members). I am talking about changes and amendments to the aforesaid law (the amnesty law authored by Yuriy Myroshnychenko and passed by Verkhovna Rada)," he told a conciliation board on Monday.

"We believe that in this instance some conditions must be simply removed, and the problem will be solved," Tiahnybok added.

The amnesty law neither is, nor will be effective, Udar Party leader Vitali Klitschko said.

"We must pass a new law on the protection against persecution without any conditions. A draft of such a law has already been registered by our faction members under N4073," Klitschko said.
