MOSCOW. Feb 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) has posted the 2012 sales rating of the world's top 100 arms manufacturers.
The 25th annual report of SIPRI included Russia's Almaz-Antei Concern (14th place), the United Aircraft Corporation (18th) and Russian Helicopters (25th) in the list of leading arms manufacturers.
SIPRI upgraded the Sukhoi Company from 38th place (in 2011) to 36th place in 2012.
The United Engine Building Corporation ranked 38th, the United Shipbuilding Corporation 46th and the Nizhny Tagil Uralvagonzavod 53rd.
SIPRI said that practically all Russian arms makers had improved their performance thanks to the deliveries growth of more than 20%. Russian defense plants maintain high amounts of exports although a significant part of their sales ($700 billion) will fall on state defense orders in 2011-2020.
SIPRI started publishing the world's top list of arms makers in 1990. Sales of arms and military services of the companies listed in this rating declined 4.2% year-on-year in 2012 to $395 billion.
Traditionally, the list was topped by the U.S. Lockheed Martin and Boeing. Forty-two U.S. companies accounted for 58% of total military sales in the top 100, and 30 West European companies provided 28%. Chinese defense companies were not included in the rating.
