Izhevsk electromechanical plant's general director to step down

IZHEVSK. Feb 4 (Interfax-AVN) - Sergei Vasilyev, general director of the Kupol electromechanical plant, based in Izhevsk, will leave his post soon, a source familiar with the situation told Interfax.

"Vasilyev has filed for voluntary resignation. He will leave his post soon," he said.

Vasilyev's successor will be announced "in days," he said, "The most likely candidate is Vasilyev's deputy commercial, financial and managing director Fanil Ziyatdinov," the source said.

Vasilyev was appointed Kupol's general director in 2001, he said.

The Izhevsk Electromechnical Kupol Plant makes short-range air-defense systems, including Tor-M1 surface-to-air missile systems and its modifications, and Tor-M2 systems, upgrades the Osa-AKM, Tor-M1 systems and their modifications, makes missile-borne equipment of the surface-to-air class, and provides maintenance services to customer organizations.

Kupol-manufactured air defense systems are in service in more than 20 countries. Kupol is part of the Almaz-Antey Concern.
