MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Interfax) - It is crucial to facilitate the continuation of the negotiations between the Syrian government and the opposition, the Russian Foreign Ministry quoted Deputy Foreign Minister and presidential envoy for the Middle East Mikhail Bogdanov as saying at a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei on Tuesday.
Bogdanov and Sanaei "discussed the development of the situation in Syria and around it, including in the context of the outcomes of the first round of the inter-Syrian negotiations within the framework of the Geneva II international conference on January 24-31. Russia stressed that it is important to continue the negotiating process between the SAR government and the opposition, with constructive assistance of all international stakeholders concerned, aimed at the soonest possible political settlement of the crisis in Syria through implementing the Geneva communique of June 30, 2012," the ministry said.
