"In addition, the radio radar troops will be provided with about 20 Sopka-2 stations for creating a radio radar umbrella for the entire country. Sopka-2 has a service life of 15 years; it operates 24/7 at a range of 400 kilometers and an altitude of 30 kilometers," Air Force spokesman Col. Igor Klimov said.
Up to 100 radio radar units of the Russian Air Force will switch to new radar and automated communication systems this year, he said.
Automation of three radio radar regiments of the First and Third Commands of the Air Force/Air Defense will be complete in 2014. These units will be equipped with modern automated systems Fundament, which are capable of processing over 400 airborne objects a minute. More than ten radio radar units have been supplied with these modern automated stations, the officer said.
