Sochi transportation security provided - minister

MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Sport Express/Interfax) - The entire transit system of the Sochi Winter Games has been equipped to meet transportation security requirements, Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said at a government meeting on Wednesday.

"I'd like to emphasize that the equipment of all existent transportation facilities of the Sochi Olympic Games with means of transportation security was provided within the framework of a comprehensive [transportation security] program. And new transportation facilities were built consistent with security requirements included in the construction estimates," he said.

The program of 2010-2013 envisaged "fencing and security measures in some sections of the Sapsan high-speed rail on the Moscow-St.Petersburg-Helsinki and Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod routes," he said.

Security was also provided for the most vulnerable rail sections in the North Caucasus, primarily in Dagestan, he said. Security was upgraded in 30 main airports of the country and 31 seaports, including "nine seaports visited by nuclear-powered vessels", the minister added.
