Putin thanks foreign colleagues for cooperation in Olympic security

SOCHI. Feb 5 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has thanked foreign partners for their assistance in providing security for the Sochi Olympics.

"Security has always worried everyone," Putin said.

Security issues are always at the forefront during major international events, he told reporters during a visit to the Olympic village.

"People were killed at a marathon in the U.S. and there were terrorist attacks in the London underground during a G8 summit," he recalled.

"I want to thank colleagues from all countries for their most active cooperation with us, their Russian partners," the president said.

For the Olympic period, there will be an emergency headquarters comprised of representatives from other countries' special agencies who will work round the clock, Putin said.
