ASTANA. Feb 13 (Interfax) - The Kazakh Defense Ministry's main inspectorate has been conducting planned inspection of the Airmobile Forces, some units of which have been stationed in the Almaty Regional Garrison, since February 3, the Defense Ministry reported.
"The inspection is aimed at determining the units' capability of performing their mission within the planned period of time. One of the purposes of the inspection is the condition of the weapons and military hardware," the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
In particular, automobiles and armored vehicles belonging to military unit 61933 (the Kazakh Peacekeeping Brigade) was inspected in the near vicinity of its base in the first part of Wednesday, it said.
All these vehicles returned to their bases the same day.
"The inspections are continuing both at the units' permanent locations and in field conditions (training centers)," it said.
An Internet video showed a convoy of military vehicles, including Kamaz trucks and armored personnel carriers, on a highway near Almaty on Thursday. Some users suggested in comments that military vehicles were being sent to Almaty.
Interfax learned from a Kazakh Airmobile Forces spokesperson that the convoy was heading for exercises.
