MOSCOW. Feb 13 (Interfax-AVN) - A planning conference for the antiterrorist command post exercise, Vigilant Eagle 2014, between Russia, the United States and Canada has ended in Colorado Springs (Colorado, the U.S.).
"As a result of their consultations representatives from the Russian military delegation from the Eastern Military District (EMD) and the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) have reached an agreement to hold the joint command post exercise this August," EMD spokesman Lt. Col. Alexander Gordeyev told Interfax-AVN on Thursday.
The final planning conference of the exercise is due in mid-May.
The exercise headquarters are expected to be opened in the Russian cities of Khabarovsk and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and in the U.S. cities of Colorado Springs and Anchorage.
The parties have agreed that during the two-day exercise the Russian and U.S. headquarters will conduct complex training in communications, computer simulation of the escorting and forced landing of an aircraft 'seized' by terrorists, as well as a virtual practice of search and rescue operations' elements, and so on.
Russia was represented at the planning conference by officers from the EMD air defense and aviation control unit and air force and air defense command unit. The Russian military delegation was led by EMD Aerospace Defense Commander Maj. Gen. Dmitry Gomenkov.
