Corvette Stoikiy successfully completes air defense, communication tests

KALININGRAD. Feb 13 (Interfax-AVN) - Project 20380 corvette Stoikiy has successfully completed a series of air defense, radar systems, and communication tests, Captain II Rank Vladimir Matveyev, the head of the Baltic Fleet information support department, told Interfax.

"During the builders' sea trials of the corvette, the operating ability and reliability of the ship's air defense, radar system, and communication systems was tested when anti-boat helicopters Ka-27 and frontline bombers Su-24 of the Baltic Fleet's sea aviation flew around the Stoikiy. The naval sailors fulfilled the tasks to locate, identify, and accompany various types of air targets at high and low altitudes, and also determined their speed characteristics," Matveyev said.

The work of the ship's systems was recognized as successful, he said. The next stage will be tests of the vessel's hydroacoustic systems.

After completing the builders' sea trials and state trails, the corvette will join the Baltic Fleet at the end of the second quarter of 2014, Matveyev said.

The corvette Stoikiy is the third Project 20380 serial ship. Project 20380 corvettes have a displacement of 2,000 tonnes, are over 100 meters long, have the maximal speed of up to 27 knots, and a sea endurance of 4,000 miles.
