KHARKIV. Feb 14 (Interfax) - Early parliamentary and/or presidential elections will not help Ukraine to overcome the crisis, Kharkiv Regional Council Chairman Serhiy Chernov said.
"I think that this should not be done. This will create a precedent that if today someone does not like something, then by going to the streets and creating discontent, he can easily change the legally elected authorities." Chernov told reporters on Thursday.
Now all conflict parties should stop escalating the situation, refuse ultimatums and uses of force, and politicians should discuss topics that are dividing Ukraine (such as who World War II heroes are etc.) outside of public disputes, Chernov said. Following this it is necessary to create a working group, which will foresee new and better state structures for Ukraine, he said.
It is wrong to call the events happening in Ukraine a revolution, Chernov said.
"This is no revolution. Revolution always sets the goal of quality changes… But as of today no one has proposed them. To change the Constitution for the 2004 Constitution, so what? We had it five years ago and conflict lays in the root of it. This is not the way out," he said.
Delaying the crisis leads to escalation of tensions in society, which eventually will split the country, Chernov said.
"Each action has a reaction and the longer this goes on, the bigger the resistance will be and this situation will contribute so much so that someone will lose it and say - if we can not live together, let's get a divorce," Chernov said.
