Destroyer Admiral Levchenko practices interaction with landing ships in Mediterranean Sea

SEVEROMORSK. Feb 17 (Interfax-AVN) - The crews from the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Levchenko, the large landing ship Georgy Pobedonosets of the Northern Fleet and the large landing ship Azov of the Black Sea Fleet have practiced interaction when performing joint tasks, Northern Fleet spokesman 1st Captain Vadim Serga told Interfax-AVN on Monday.

"The Admiral Levchenko crew spent several days in the designated parts of the Mediterranean Sea jointly practicing with the two landing ships' crews the tasks of maneuvering and re-structuring into various types of formations, organizing communication with signaling in accordance with the international standards for radio exchange, and protecting and defending the naval squadron," Serga said.

The destroyer's crew also held a number of practice sessions to organize air defense and anti-submarine defense for the naval squadron, fighting for a ship's survival in the sea, as well as a number of search and rescue operations, he said.

The preliminary estimate of the exercise shows the Northern and Black Sea Fleets' crews ready to successfully perform various tasks under a single command.

"The practicing of inter-fleet interaction elements is one of the main tasks addressed by the Russian naval crews during long journeys. During the joint operations the Russian ships' crews check the functioning of control and communications systems, and exchange the practical experience they gained during various long journeys," Serga said.
