MOSCOW. Feb 18 (Interfax) - Moscow hopes that the new Lebanese government will cope with all their set tasks.
"Moscow hopes that the formation of the Libyan government on the basis of accord between the leading political forces will help strengthen stability and security in that country and solve the problems entered on the national agenda," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary on Monday.
It reaffirmed "Russia's continuing support for Lebanon's sovereignty, independence and unity, and the Lebanese people's right to decide their future in compliance with the constitution and broad national dialogue," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The process of forming a government, led by Tammam Salam, that has been going on for several months, is nearing completion in Lebanon. President Michel Suleiman issued a decree on February 15 saying that the 24-member government will have eight seats each filled by representatives of the March 14 Coalition, March 8 Coalition and the centrists. The government is to prepare a statement and submit it to the parliament for approval.
