Policemen, protestors sustain injuries in Kyiv clashes

KYIV. Feb 18 (Interfax) - Seven interior troops were injured in clashes on Hrushevsky Street in central Kyiv on Tuesday, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry reported.

"One of them was diagnosed with an arm bone fracture. He cannot be moved to a hospital because the streets are filled with demonstrators in central Kyiv," the Interior Ministry's press service said.

Interior troops were injured after protestors gained control of a truck and drove it into a police cordon in order to reach the parliament building.

No official information is available for now about the number of injured protestors, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, lawmaker Oleksandr Brihinets of the Batkivshchina party said on Facebook that the Officers House club in central Kyiv has been seized by protestors and now accommodates a first-aid station.

"The Officers' House has been captured and now accommodates a first-aid station," he wrote.

Another lawmaker, Andriy Ilyenko, of the Svoboda faction posted a picture on his Facebook page, showing the Officers' House and several injured men being aided.

Interfax has not been able to get in touch with the Maidan first-aid service for updated information about the injured protestors.

But media claimed at least ten have been injured, among them journalists.
