Moscow condemns suicide bombings in Beirut suburb

MOSCOW. Feb 20 (Interfax) - Moscow has condemned twin suicide car bombings near an Iranian cultural center in a southern suburb of Beirut on Wednesday that reportedly killed four people besides the bombers themselves and left more than 100 injured.

"We resolutely condemn all forms and manifestations of terrorism. We believe that the attempts of extremist forces to explode the situation in Lebanon and sow religious strife among the Lebanese must not be allowed to go ahead. The organizers of this terrorist attack and those who may be behind them must be found out and receive the punishment that they deserve," Russia's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"We want to highlight the fact that the terrorist attack was carried out at a sensitive moment when the lengthy process of formation of a government is coming to a close, and when, after lengthy debates, the leading political forces have been able to embark on a path of political stabilization on the basis of the Constitution and dialogue. We expect that the Lebanese will be strong enough to get over this latest in a series of bloody provocations and resume the search for consensus-based solutions to all burning problems on the national agenda," the statement said.

"We reaffirm our support for the sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and stability of Lebanon," it said.
