MOSCOW. Feb 20 (Interfax) - EU and U.S. sanctions against Ukraine demanded by the opposition leaders are hopeless and can do nothing but deteriorate the conflict, Federation Council International Affairs Committee Deputy Chairman Andrei Klimov said.
The United States and their allies are experienced in imposing sanctions on third world countries, he said.
"Ukraine is a large European state, a CIS member, and the tactics of Washington and Brussels sanctions against Ukraine will have no future and do nothing but deepen this conflict. Obviously, the bloodshed on Maidan is 99% on the conscience of the radicalized opposition, which has been provoked to take such actions by various western emissaries and ambassadors who dealt out cookies on Maidan," Klimov told Interfax.
In his opinion, Western and European emissaries, among them senior officials, supported the actions of the opposition leaders with promises, including those of sanctions against the Ukrainian authorities.
