KYIV. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Internal Troops soldiers who were captured by radical protesters during the latest clashes in Kyiv were allowed to leave the city center last night.
According to an Interfax correspondent, several dozen soldiers were escorted by Maidan demonstrators from the central part of the city in order to protect them from further attacks by radical activists. Some of the protesters could be heard yelling insults at the soldiers but no one dared to beat them.
MP Petro Poroshenko has said that these servicemen are expected to return to their military units, located in other parts of Ukraine, on Friday.
It was reported on Thursday that 60 Internal Troops soldiers had allegedly agreed to voluntarily surrender to Kyiv protesters.
The Interior Ministry, for its part, reported that 67 servicemen of the Internal Troops had been captured by extremists.
