Threat of radicalism spreading to Europe will emerge if current opposition leaders come to power in Ukraine - Russian diplomat

MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, believes that if Ukraine's current opposition leaders manage to come to power in the country with the help of radical forces, this circumstance may add to the threat of radical sentiments spreading to Europe.

"If those so-called democratic opposition leaders succeed and come to power on the shoulders of thugs, that will not produce democracy in Ukraine. It would produce a deeply chaotic and split Ukraine," Churkin said in an interview with CNN.

"And those radical sentiments would infect Europe as well, which also has this phenomenon of radicalism in its political life," the Russian diplomat said.

Western politicians fail to see all of the consequences of radical protesters' actions in Ukraine, he said.

"I hope the European and American officials who are dealing with the situation understand what they are doing. I'm afraid they don't, because their actions do not reflect an understanding of the destabilizing impact of their policy of encouraging the violent opposition to attempt a seizure of power in Kyiv," Churkin said.
