MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax-AVN) - The lead frigate of Project 11356M, the Alexander Grigorovich, built at the Kaliningrad Yantar shipyard, will be launched in the first ten days of March, a source from the shipbuilding industry told Interfax-AVN on Friday.
"It was originally planned to launch the frigate on February 28. Yet the complicated ice patterns along the waterfront delayed the event until approximately the first ten days of March. The ship is technically prepared for being launched," the source stressed.
The construction of the Admiral Grigorovich started in December 2010 for the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Project 11356M is an upgrade of Project 11356 earlier built for the Indian Navy. In all, six frigates of the project will be constructed for the Russian Navy. Five of them are under construction already.
Frigates of Project 11356M have a displacement of about 4,000 tonnes, a length of 125 meters, a speed of 30 knots and a crew of 180 men. They are armed with eight Onix or Kalibr-NK missile launchers, a 100mm A-190 artillery system, a Shtil-1 air defense missile system and two torpedo tubes.
