ST. PETERSBURG. Feb 21 (Interfax-AVN) - The keel-laying ceremony of Project 636 diesel-electric submarine Krasnodar, which will be provided to the Black Sea fleet, took place at Admiralty Shipyards in St. Petersburg on Thursday, an Interfax-AVN correspondent has reported.
The official start of Contract No. 01673 was announced at the ceremony. An official with Admiralty Shipyards said work is now being done on the sections of the submarine.
"Among the participants in the ceremony was the recently formed crew of the submarine, who will be trained in the Novorossiysk submarine brigade. The junction will be formed in summer 2014, when the head submarine Novorossiysk reached the naval base," an official with the General Headquarters of the Russian Navy, who took part in the ceremony, told Interfax-AVN.
The construction of the head submarine Novorossiysk began in August 2010 and the submarine was set afloat on November 28, 2013. The construction of the second submarine, Rostov-on-Don, was started in November 2011 and it will be set afloat in May 2014, and the construction of the third submarine, Stary Oskol, began in August 2012 and it will be set afloat in June 2014.
