No weapons missing at Berkut's Lviv base after fire - police

LVIV. Feb 21 (Interfax) - At this time police have not registered any weapon losses from the Berkut special police forces base in Lviv, where a fire and explosion occurred on Thursday night.

"The weapons did not disappear from the Berkut base," Lviv police chief Serhiy Zyubanenko told reporters.

Investigators and experts are probing the events, he said. "So far we do not know what happened first, the fire or the explosion, and what exactly exploded. The answer must be delivered by specialists," the Lviv police chief said.

The bodies of two Berkut officers were found buried under a collapsed wall, Zyubanenko also said. One was identified by his wallet, the second was recognized by his co-workers.

The fire started at the Berkut base in Lviv at around 6.30 p.m. on Thursday. Prior to the fire there was an explosion inside the building. The charred bodies of two Berkut officers were found during the firefighting operation.
