Crimean deputies must not establish foreign contacts bypassing Foreign Ministry - Mohyliov

SIMFEROPOL. Feb 26 (interfax) - Any meetings between Crimean deputies and foreign officials must be held with the consent of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Crimean premier Anatoliy Mohyliov said after two Crimean deputies - Russian Unity Party leader Serhiy Aksyonov and Crimean Parliament Presidium member Serhiy Tsekov met with four members of the Russian State Duma led by the Duma's CIS Committee Chairman Leonid Slutsky.

"I believe any contact with foreign diplomats and nationals at the official level is, under the current laws, the prerogative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. If someone is trying to meet and talk about something, this is outside the legal field. I am convinced that meetings with foreign diplomats can only be made through the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry," Mohyliov said.

"We have very many 'hotheads' who are ready to heat up the situation in Crimea even further. I am appealing to them once again: let us stop doing populist slogans and calling for some semi-clear actions. This might lead to such conflicts that will make us forget about the resort season in the Crimea for several years ahead," Mohyliov said.

Last night four Russian Duma deputies led by CIS Committee Chairman Slutsky arrived in the Crimean city of Simferopol, Crimean media outlets said. At the airport they were greeted by Crimean Supreme Council deputies Aksyonov and Tsekov, both of the Russian Unity Party.
