Moscow will draw its conclusions after Russia-NATO Council meeting on Ukraine - envoy Grushko

BRUSSELS. March 6 (Interfax) - Moscow will analyze the results of a March 5 meeting of the Russia-NATO Council and will draw certain conclusions concerning further cooperation within the council, the Russian Permanent Representative to NATO, Alexander Grushko, told reporters on Wednesday evening.

"We are not used to working based on emotions," Grushko said, after being asked to comment on Russia's response to the alliance's decision to suspect cooperation with Russia in a number of areas.

None of NATO's projects serves the interests of one of the sides alone, he said.

"All of them are primarily aimed at countering common security threats facing both Russia, NATO and the whole Euro-Atlantic space, which we consider to be indivisible," Grushko said.

The fight against terrorism and sea piracy is just one of "the areas of cooperation that exists between Russia and NATO today," he said.

Hopefully, "NATO countries will not throw the baby out with the bath water," he said.

"As far as our political dialogue is concerned, these contacts will certainly continue in one way or another. The Russian Federation and NATO are the largest military-political entities in the Euro-Atlantic space, but the productivity of their political dialogue will largely depend on the extent of our NATO partners' commitment to the principles [of relations within the Russia-NATO Council]," Grushko said.
