MOSCOW. March 7 (Interfax-AVN) - The Chief Organization and Mobilization Department of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces has "large-scale tasks," the department chief said on Friday.
One task is "building up the operational strength of the Armed Forces," Lt. Gen. Vasily Tonkoshkurov said at a celebration in Moscow of the department's 50th anniversary.
Another is "optimization" of armaments and "projecting their future image in view of new models that are being put in service," he said.
A third one is launching "a new system of military training for students at higher education institutions and building a federal system of public training for military service," Tonkoshkurov said.
The purpose of setting up the Chief Organization and Mobilization Department of the General Staff on March 7, 1964, was to "improve the organizational structure of the central apparatus of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR and eliminate parallelism in collaboration between the Central Staff of the Land Forces and the General Staff," according to the law that established it.
