TBILISI. March 11 (Interfax) - The Tbilisi City Court on march 6 convicted two citizens of Russia, Mikail Kadiyev and Rizman Omarov, for illegal purchase and storage of firearms and explosives.
The men, who are native Dagestanis, were sentenced to two years in prison.
In June 2013, Kadiyev and Omarov were detained by Georgian law enforcement officials in a rent apartment in Tbilisi, where pistols and explosives were found.
When they were detained, the Georgian Interior Ministry reported that the men had prepared to carry out a terrorist attack in Georgia. They were later cleared of that charge.
Kadiyev is charged with murder in Russia. Russian law enforcement agencies have sent two requests for his extradition to the Georgian prosecutors.
In the meantime, defense lawyer Gela Nikolaishvili told reporters an appeal will be filed, adding that Georgia has no right to extradite Kadiyev to Russia until the appeal is considered.
