MOSCOW. March 13 (Interfax) - Several Russian airlines have changes the routes of flights going over Ukrainian territory, data from flight radar 24, a flight tracker, shows.
The route of an Aeroflot flight from Simferopol was changed and the airline used a longer route that mainly flew over Russian territory. Aeroflot (MOEX: AFLT) confirmed this information on its Twitter microblog.
"Today a decision was made to change the flight route. Navigation savings were not considered," Aeroflot said. The airline said it has the right to use any official routes for its flights.
An Aeroflot spokesman told Interfax that at least four flights had their route changed.
Aeroflot were unable to say whether spending on fuel had increased significantly because it has not made such calculations yet. Federal Air Transport Agency Rosaviatsia said company spending is negligible, as a rule, with maximum extra flying of 50 minutes.
Several S7 (MOEX: AVSI), Transaero, NordWind and Turkish Airlines flights also used routes avoiding Ukraine, flight radar 24 data shows.
