Protests erupt in eastern regions against Ukrainian troops arrival

SIMFEROPOL/KHARKIV/DONETSK. March 17 (Interfax) - Residents of Ukraine's eastern regions have rallied together to obstruct the unloading of armored vehicles, including tanks and armored personnel carriers, arriving by rail from central and western regions of Ukraine, eye witnesses and Interfax correspondents reported on Sunday.

Protests erupted against the redeployment of Ukrainian troops and armored vehicles in the Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk regions, according to eye witnesses.

In individual instances, clashes occurred between local residents and commanders of the arriving military trains. A Ukrainian colonel was beaten up at the Kondrashevskaya-Novaya railway platform. The situation is extremely serious and dangerous, eye witnesses claimed.
