Exercises in eastern Russia to involve over 1,500 servicemen

MOSCOW. March 17 (Interfax-AVN) - Exercises in Russia's Eastern Military District will check the performance of the staffs of military units, motorized and armor battalions, district spokesman Lt. Col. Alexander Gordeyev told Interfax-AVN on Monday.

"The war games supervised by Eastern Military District combined-arms army commander Lt. Gen. Sergei Solomatin involving three units from various districts of the Far East began in the Eastern Military District today," Gordeyev said.

Servicemen of a motorized infantry unit deployed in the Khabarovsk territory, a cover brigade stationed in the Jewish autonomous region and a communication unit from the Amur region will travel to the Bidzhan training center in their service-issue vehicles, Gordeyev said.

The operation of staffs of military units, motorized and armored battalions will be the focus of the exercises, he said.
