BRUSSELS. March 17 (Interfax) - Russia runs a close second to the United States by global arms exports in 2009-2013, says a report of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) posted on Monday.
Russia contributed 27% of global arms sales while the U.S. share stood at 29%, the report said, adding that Russian arms exports had demonstrated some growth.
SIPRI leading arms trade and licensing expert Simon Wiseman said the levels of Russian arms exports remained high in spite of the crisis in its defense sector, which started after the end of the Cold War.
Russia exported its main types of weaponry to 52 states in 2009-2013, and INS Vikramaditya delivered to India was the main export delivery in 2013, he said.
SIPRI also listed Germany (7% of the global arms market), China (6%) and France (5%) as the leading arms sellers in 2009-2013.
