ST. PETERSBURG. March 17 (Interfax-AVN) - The strategic development program of the Black Sea Fleet will be changed with regard for the new geopolitical circumstances, the Main Headquarters of the Russian Navy told Interfax-AVN on Monday.
"The current plan of development for the Black Sea Fleet has suddenly become obsolete. The new circumstances require urgent adjustments, which will be made in the near future," the source said.
The removal of the political factors that considerably hindered the development of the Black Sea Fleet and the intensive construction of modern ships and submarines for the fleet will considerably change the appearance of the Black Sea Fleet in the next few years, he said.
"The Black Sea Fleet will be restored and intensively renewed with regard for the new strategic tasks in the area of its responsibility," the official said.
The source recalled that the plan of building infrastructure for the Western Group of the Black Sea Fleet in the Novorossiysk naval base will stay unchanged and will be fulfilled according to an earlier approved plan.
"The changes will affect mainly the main base of the Black Sea Fleet, where the entire infrastructure and naval base system will be improved overtime. A modern maintenance base will be created there with regard for the new ships provided to the fleet,' the official said.
The combat training plans, in which all nuances will be taken into account, will soon be adjusted, he said.
