Caspian Flotilla ships start exercise

MOSCOW. March 17 (Interfax-AVN) - A diverse group of the Caspian Flotilla, consisting of the frigates "Tatarstan" and "Dagestan", the landing boat "Ataman Platov" and four Serna-class fast-speed landing boats have entered the Caspian Sea for an exercise, a spokesperson for the Southern Military District said on Saturday.

This is the first sortie for the ships and boats after their winter-time moorage and the final stage in their winter training period, the spokesperson told Interfax-AVN.

Over the next two weeks, the guided missile ships will conduct a number of various isolated naval drills, engage in warfare against the enemy's surface and submarine targets, hold anti-mine weapon drills, reconnaissance search and demining, air defense drills, and will organize and conduct antisubmarine warfare for a ship in unsafe roadsted, the spokesperson said.
