Russia's strategic submarine forces guarantee Russia's security - commander-in-chief of Russian Navy

MOSCOW. March 19 (Interfax-AVN) - Nuclear ballistic missile submarines, which are the core of the attack potential of the Russian Navy, guarantee the safety of the Russian Federation, Admiral Viktor Chirkov, commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy, said.

"I can say that intensive service of strategic and multi-function nuclear submarines in the World Ocean is maintained at a level that guarantees the safety of our country," Chirkov told reporters on Wednesday.

"Nuclear ballistic missile submarines that are on combat duty in the Northern and Pacific fleets are now the core of the attack potential of the Navy," he said.

"The sea strategic nuclear forces continue successfully resolving their tasks at sea using strategic ballistic missile submarines in the form of combat patrolling at sea and combat duty in bases at the established preparedness level within the framework of their participation in strategic nuclear deterrence," Chirkov said.

March 19 is the Submariner Day in Russia. Celebrations are conducted in the Northern, Pacific, Baltic, and Black Sea Fleets on Wednesday.
