Azeri president sure his country will regain control of Nagorno-Karabakh soon

BAKU. March 20 (Interfax) - Azeri President Ilham Aliyev calls Nagorno-Karabakh an inseparable part of Azerbaijan and anticipates the speedy restoration of the republic's territorial integrity.

"I am absolutely sure that Azerbaijan's growing power, our potential, and our well thought-out and balanced foreign policy will enable us to restore our territorial integrity," Aliyev said on the occasion of celebrations of the traditional Nowruz holiday.

Baku's foreign political steps are based on international law and justice, Aliyev said. "These two notions are the basis for us. International law and justice are in conflict in some cases in international relations. But, despite this, Azerbaijan expresses its principled position on all issues," he said.

The unsettled status of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the main foreign political problem for Azerbaijan, he said.

"Nagorno-Karabakh is Azerbaijan's inseparable part and our native land. All place-names in Nagorno-Karabakh reflect the Azeri people's culture and history. Not only Nagorno-Karabakh but most of contemporary Armenia are ancient Azeri lands," he said.

"I am sure that this conflict will be resolved justly based on international law. Azerbaijan will restore its territorial integrity and sovereignty," he said.
