TALLINN. March 28 (Interfax) - In light of the events in Ukraine, Estonia is well protected both by its own warning systems and by its NATO allies, Estonian Defense Minister Sven Mikser said.
"Estonia is well protected, all Estonian competent authorities, including those subordinate to the Defense Ministry, demonstrate vigilance, excessive inflation of danger is currently unjustified," he told a press conference in Tallinn on Thursday.
Estonia maintains strong and effective relations with its NATO allies based on Article 5 of our agreement with the alliance, he said.
All leading NATO politicians, including the U.S. president and vice president, confirmed last week that the guarantees under this article are absolute, that all allied states, including NATO border states such as Estonia, will be protected if need be, Mikser said.
His viewpoint was reaffirmed by the Estonian Defense Force Commander Maj. Gen. Riho Terras who made a statement on Thursday.
"Our intelligence units are watching very closely the movements of the Russian Federation troops, we have a detailed review of it. Based on this information I can confirm that at the moment there is no military threat to Estonia or other Baltic States," he said.
