Eggs thrown at Saakashvili's supporters in Tbilisi, police forced to interfere

TBILISI. March 28 (Interfax) - An incident occurred between supporters and opponents of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili near the Georgian Prosecutor General's Office, where the former president was to be questioned as a witness regarding ten criminal cases.

Several dozen young men calling themselves "political prisoners" threw eggs at Saakashvili's supporters, who protested over summoning the former president to the prosecutor's office.

The incident escalated into a fight and Saakashvili's supporters left under police protection. Police detained several people, who participated in the fight.

Last week Saakashvili was summoned for questioning as a witness for 1 p.m. (Moscow time) on March 27, however the former president told reporters he has no intention to come to Georgia, because all criminal cases opened, regarding which he was to be questioned, were "falsified."

Saakashvili said that at certain time, which "will come very soon," he would return to Georgia in order to "release it from the current pro-Russian government."

The former president temporarily resides in the United States now.
