SCO RATS Council to converge in Tashkent on Friday

TASHKENT. March 28 (Interfax) - The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Regional Antiterrorism Structure (RATS) Council will converge on Friday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, for its 24th meeting to consider regional security in the SCO area after the partial pullout of U.S. and NATO troops from Afghanistan.

"Joint measures of competent entities of SCO member states in the provision of regional security and the deterrence of threats after the partial withdrawal of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) from Afghanistan in 2014 will be on the agenda," a spokesman for the SCO RATS Executive Committee told Interfax on Friday.

The delegates will also confer on the exposure, prevention and termination of the use of Internet resources for terrorist, extremist and separatist purposes.

The Council will consider the creation of a unified register of terrorist, separatist and extremist Internet resources.

Another item on the agenda is a scientific and practical conference on cooperation between SCO competent authorities in the suppression of international terrorism and extremism. The conference is due in the fourth quarter of this year.

Federal Security Service First Deputy Director Sergei Smirnov heads the Russian delegation.

The SCO RATS is comprised of Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
