New Ukrainian govt does not aim to join NATO - minister

KYIV. March 31 (Interfax-AVN) - Ukrainian Acting Foreign Minister Andriy Deshchytsa has said that the new Ukrainian government is not planning to lead Ukraine into NATO.

"We are considering all options on how to reinforce our security as well as collective security. However, we must abide by the existing Ukrainian laws," he told a press conference in Kyiv on Saturday.

By Ukrainian law, Ukraine is a non-aligned state, the acting foreign minister recalled.

"This matter - whether this legislation should be changed - depends on the Ukrainian parliament. The new government's program contains no intention of becoming a NATO member," he said.

Ukraine maintains an intense dialogue with NATO and discusses various forms and ways of cooperation, Deshchytsa added.
