KYIV. April 1 (Interfax) - The inquiry into the actions of law enforcement during the arrest of Right Sector's Western Ukraine coordinator Oleksandr Muzychko has shown that the police acted lawfully, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said.
"From what I've seen in the report, (...) police acted lawfully," he told reporters in Kyiv on Tuesday.
According to the report, there were inaccuracies and technical faults during the operation, Avakov added. A detailed police report about the Muzychko arrest operation will be unveiled on Tuesday evening, he said.
"The most complete report on the internal investigation of the incident in Rivne will be published tonight. We shall publish this report - it will be an unprecedentedly open report - and then society can make conclusions who is who, who is right and who is wrong," the minister said.
Muzychko died in the early hours of March 25. Ukraine's first deputy interior minister Volodymyr Yevdokimov initially said that he was fatally injured during his arrest in the early hours of March 25 because he opened fire against police. Later Yevdokimov said that the fatal injury was caused by Muzychko's own weapon. The first deputy minister said: "He fired his weapon which he was using to shoot at police officers. One bullet went through him, the second hit his heart."
Right Sector demanded the immediate resignation of Interior Minister Arsen Avakov and the arrest of all the Sokol police special forces officers responsible for Muzychko's death. Avakov responded by claiming that Right Sector threatened him but that he "accepted the challenge" and his position towards those who violate public order will be fairly tough.
On the night of March 27 Right Sector held a warning picket outside the parliament building to demand Avakov's resignation.
Avakov said the Interior Ministry would complete the international inquiry into Muzychko's death in the next few days.
Meanwhile, Verkhovna Rada set up an ad hoc commission to investigate the circumstances surrounding the right-wing radical's death. It will decide whether the police actions and Avakov's orders were lawful.
