Kazakhstan installs beacon positioning ships in Caspian with 1 m precision

ASTANA. April 2 (Interfax) - A local marine differential station has been commissioned in port Bautino, Mangistau region, Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan's space agency, Kazkosmos, announced in a report circulated on Wednesday that acceptance tests were conducted between March 26 and March 29.

After the tests the acceptance commission recommended the station for commercial operation.

The facility is designed to generate and transmit corrections and radio navigation data to users and also submit online information about the quality of the functioning of the station and GLONASS/GPS navigation systems and in the future also the GALILEO system to a remote controlling station with the purpose of guarantying safe seafaring in Kazakhstan's sector of the Caspian (continental shelf, northern and middle parts of the sea).

The data supplied by the station will be used in marine navigation, hydrographic, research and other operations.

"The realization of the project of building a local marine differential station in Kazakhstan resulted in the appearance of the country's first radio beacon guaranteeing high precision (up to 1 meter) in positioning ships and vessels in Kazakhstan's sector of the Caspian Sea," the report says.
