KYIV. April 2 (Interfax) - The European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) has banned flights to Crimea, in particular, to Simferopol and Sevastopol, Eurocontrol said on the flightworx website.
The information was confirmed to Interfax by a representative of the country's air industry.
Eurocontrol strictly abides by the ICAO Convention on International Civil Aviation and will not recognize any unilateral declaration of air navigation service over any part of Ukrainian airspace issued by other than Ukrainian authorities, he said.
Flights to Simferopol and Sevastopol have been banned until further notice, according to Eurocontrol.
Eurocontrol also advises to agree upon itineraries with Ukrainian, Romanian, Bulgarian and Turkish air traffic control centers to avoid air traffic violations.
Eurocontrol coordinates and plans air traffic control for the whole of Europe. This includes national authorities, air navigation equipment supplies, civil and military users of airspace, airports and other organizations. Its work includes strategic and tactical control over traffic, air traffic controller training, regional airspace control and the collection of air navigation taxes.
