Military transport aviation completes air-lift of cargo and personnel to ice base in Arctic

MOSCOW. April 3 (Interfax-AVN) - An Ilyushin Il-76MD military transport aircraft from the Russian Air Force on Wednesday made the third and last flight to deliver cargo to Barneo camp in the Arctic, official spokesmen for the Air Force Col. Igor Klimov has told Interfax-AVN.

"The aircraft delivered fuel, tents and food for the camp in the polar zone," he specified.

He reminded Interfax that during the three missions over 50 tonnes of cargo were dropped to the ice on 43 platforms (generators, food, polar tents, two tractors, diesel fuel, helicopter fuel and other equipment) and some 15 people to operate the camp close to the North pole.

The cargo was air-dropped from a minimum possible altitude.

It was the eighth time that military transport aircraft air-lifted cargo and people - members of the polar expedition at the ice camp Barneo in the Arctic Ocean.
