MOSCOW. April 7 (Interfax) - A 26-year-old assistant to the chief prosecutor of Yalta has been arrested on suspicion of receiving a bribe in return for a promise to organize the quashing of two criminal cases against a local resident, a law enforcement source told Interfax on Friday.
Russian Prosecutor General's Office spokesman Marina Gridneva confirmed this and said the suspect had been a member of the team of the local branch of the former Ukrainian prosecution service. "He hasn't been moved over into the new Russian prosecution service for Crimea and Sevastopol," Gridneva said.
She said the suspect's arrest had been approved by Crimea's acting chief prosecutor, Natalya Poklonskaya, and that the latter had also given the go-ahead for the investigations that preceded his detention.
Gridneva said personnel were being recruited currently for the new Crimean prosecution service. "Special attention is being paid to checking professionalism, honesty and moral qualities of [candidates]," she said.
