Over 40,000 tonnes of outdated ammunition to be destroyed in Eastern Military District

MOSCOW. April 7 (Interfax-AVN) - The Eastern Military District will destroy over 40,000 tonnes of outdated ammunition by the end of 2014, the Eastern Military District press office said.

"By the end of 2014 it is planned to destroy over 40,000 tonnes of outdated ammunition in the Eastern Military District. The destruction will be performed by dismantling and partial burning," a statement, obtained by Interfax-AVN on Monday, said.

Around 14,000 tonnes of ammunition to be destroyed have already been sent to special enterprises in the Khabarovsk territory, and in the Sverdlovsk, Moscow, Kaliningrad and Leningrad regions, and in Mariy El and Bashkortostan, the document said.

"State agreements to dismantle outdated mortar shells, shells, and multiple launch rocket systems have been concluded with specialized enterprises until the end of 2014," the statement said.
