Rosoboronexport bolsters cooperation with Malaysia

MOSCOW. April 14 (Interfax-AVN) - A Rosoboronexport delegation will meet with Malaysian partners on the margins of the DSA arms show in Kuala Lumpur on April 14-17 to discuss current and prospective projects for all services of the Armed Forces, the company press service reports.

"The mutually advantageous military-technological cooperation with Malaysia has been rather dynamic thanks to the successful operation of Russian hardware delivered earlier and our efforts to improve post-sale maintenance services," Rosoboronexport Director at Large, delegation chief Nikolai Dimidyuk said in a statement obtained by Interfax-AVN on Monday.

Rosoboronexport views DSA as a resourceful platform for strengthening contacts with the entire Asia Pacific region. There will be meetings with military delegations from Vietnam, Brunei, Indonesia, China, Sri Lanka and other countries of the region. "The regional partners are expected to be most enthusiastic about the modernized tank T-90S, the Yakovlev Yak-130 combat trainer, the Mil Mi-28NE and Kamov Ka-52 combat helicopters, the Amur-1650 submarine and coastal missile systems," the report runs.

Military-technical cooperation with Malaysia started with the 1993 agreement on the delivery of Mikoyan MiG-29 multirole fighter jets, which underwent profound modernization in a later period. In the 2000s Malaysia concluded contracts on the procurement of Metis-M1 antitank missile systems, firearms, Igla MANPADS and Sukhoi Su-30 MKM multirole fighter jets. The first Malaysian astronaut traveled to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard Russia's Soyuz spaceship in 2007 within the framework of the Sukhoi Su-30 MKM contract's offset program.

"Military-technological cooperation between Russia and Malaysia, which is unique in many aspects, is a good foundation for long-term bilateral relations of trust," the press service said.

Rosoboronexport is Russia's only state exporter of the entire range of military and dual-use products, services and technologies. It is a component of state corporation Rostec. Rosoboronexport is a world arms market major player. It accounts for over 80% of Russian armament and military hardware exports.
