Reports say rally near Rada building in Kyiv is over

KYIV. April 15 (Interfax) - A rally outside the Verkhovna Rada building in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, concluded on Monday evening, and activists started to leave the venue, journalist Sviatoslav Tseholko said on his Twitter account.

"Only the "defenders" of the parliament remain outside the Verkhovna Rada,' he said.

Several hundred people headed to the parliamentary headquarters following a people's assembly on Independence Square, widely known as the Maidan, in the center of Kyiv on Monday evening.

The activists set fire to car tires near the parliament building demanding the resignation of acting Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, as well as a meeting with the country's acting president and parliamentary speaker, Oleksandr Turchynov, and Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Andriy Parubiy.

The protesters voiced their discontent with what they described as the authorities' passive response to the continuing events in the southeast of the country.
